Burak Gümüş, born in Germany in 1974, studied Sociology (Migration, Marginal Groups, Xenophobia) and Political Science (State Theories, International Cooperation, Foreign Policy) at the University of Constance (Universität Konstanz). He made there his PhD on the "Revival of Alevism in Turkey and in Germany". His fields of research interest are (Semi-)Presidentialism and Parlamentarian Democracy, Alevism; De-Kemalisation [De-Kemalizasyon/ Entkemalisierung], Political Institutions and Sociology, Turkish Foreign Policy and Turkish Politics, German-Turkish Relations; German-Turks, Collective Memory; Rituals and Identity; Transnational Migration; New Media. He has several publications mainly dealing with Turkish Alevis. He is Associate Professor, PhD in the Division for Political and Social Sciences at the Department for Public Administration in the Faculty for Economics and Administrative Sciences at the Trakya University in Edirne/Turkey.
