Emma Louise Baysal, Neolitik Dönem Zanaat Uzmanlığı üzerine olan doktora çalışmasını İngiltere’nin Liverpool Üniversitesi’nde 2010 yılında tamamladı. Bunu takiben Koç Üniversitesi’nin Anadolu Medeniyetleri Araştırma Merkezi’nde (ANAMED 2011-2012) bilimsel araştırma bursu kazandı (Senior Fellowship) ve İngiliz Arkeoloji Enstitüsü’nde (Ankara) Doktora sonrası (PostDoc) araştırmalarını (2012-2013) gerçekleştirdi. Akademik kariyerinin yanında arkeolojik kazı ve yüzey araştırması projelerine ‘Profesyonel Arkeolog’ olarak da İngiltere’de (1997’den itibaren), Yunanistan ve Arnavutluk’da (1998-2001) ve Türkiye’de (2001’den itibaren) katkıda bulunmaktadır.

Türkiye ve yakın bölgelerinde prehistorik kişisel süs eşyaları ile arkeolojik buluntu topluluklarına teorik yaklaşımlar ve yorumlar yanında prehistoryenlerin zaman ve uzamı nasıl anladıkları konuları uzmanlaştığı ilgi alanları arasındadır. Yakın bir zaman içinde de disiplinler arası bir çalışma olan ve prehistorik dönemlerden günümüze kadar uzanan bir süreçte sınırları konu edinen ortak çalışmasını (Leonidas Karakatsanis ile birlikte, İngiliz Arkeoloji Enstitisü) yayınladı.
